Jaco Costa Rica

Jaco is a picturesque district in the Garabito canton within the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. This beautiful town boasts a stunning black sand beach that stretches over 4 km (2.5 mi) and is a popular destination among surfers. The beach is surrounded by several mountains and is neighbored by the beaches of Herradura Bay to the North and Playa Hearmosa to the South.

Established on 16 September 1965, when it was segregated from Puntarenas, Jaco is a tropical paradise with an area of 141.11 km² and an elevation of 7 meters. The climate in Jaco is typically humid, with relative humidity around 80%, reaching 90% in June. The temperature is usually 24–32 °C (75–90 °F) during the day and 24–26 °C (75–79 °F) at night. During the dry season, the temperature may consistently reach 35 °C (95 °F) or above, away from the water.

Jaco is situated between Carara National Park, located about 35 kilometers north, and Manuel Antonio National Park, located 75 kilometers south. Carara National Park is renowned for its exuberant wildlife and dense rainforest and is home to one of the largest remaining populations of wild scarlet macaws in the country. The Manuel Antonio National Park is also a popular destination for its scenic beauty.

The beach in Jaco is the perfect location for surfers of all skill levels, with several surfing schools and shops selling and renting equipment. More experienced surfers can try their luck on the waves of Hermosa Beach, which is only five minutes away. There, they can find pipes and beach breaks for the pros. In addition to surfing, several excursions are available in Jaco, such as ATV and horseback riding tours, snorkeling cruises to Tortuga Island, hiking, and ziplining.
