Frog's Heaven

Tour description:

Destination: Sarapiqui.

Sarapiqui’s valley is one of the most remarkable rainforests in the world. The natural world that surrounds this part of Costa Rica is a true rainforest experience. Thousands of life forms exist in any given ecosystem ranging from a patch of overgrown grass to deep and mature primary forest. A place on its own worth spending a lifetime exploring.


Day 1. Departure from San Jose to Braulio Carrillo National Park is an hour’s worth of drive into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s natural treasures,  4 hours a moderate to easy hike to capture all we can see from ladybugs to Pitvipers, a fantastic destination for flora macro photography as well. Dozens of leaf shapes, colorful flowers, intricate seeds and weird-looking seed pods. Nature is everywhere.

After many hours gathering for wonderful images a well-deserved lunch will be served at the hotel. Time to charge the camera battery and repose for the night hike.

  • Pick up time 7:00 am
  • Arrival to Braulio Carrillo Quebrada Gonzales 8:30 am aprox.
  • Lunch 1:00 pm
  • 3:30 pm Garden exploring
  • Dinner 6:30 PM
  • Nocturnal macro photography 7:30-9:30 pm


Day 2. Breakfast and visit to La Selva Biological Station. The most well-studied rainforest on earth, heaven for scientists, birders and nature photographers. Trail explorations until lunchtime. Continue photographing nature until 5:30 pm.

  • Departure to La Selva at 8:30 am
  • Lunch 1:00 pm
  • Dinner 6:30 pm
  • Night hike 7:30 – 9:30 pm


Day 3. Visit Frog Heaven for stage photography or controlled environment. (4 hours). Followed to transfer back to San Jose.

  • Breakfast 7:30 am
  • Frog Heaven 8:30 am
  • Lunch and check out at 1:00 pm
  • Drive to San Jose 1 ½ hours departure time
